Thanked: 0Live from Oregon, it's Tuesday morning!
Hello SRP!
My name is Nathan, and I am not exactly new to wetshaving. That being said, I'm somewhat more new than a lot of you. It's been about 7 months now since I started wetshaving. My starter kit was a Futur, a Col. Conk pure badger brush and stand, a puck of C&E Nomad and matching aftershave.
As time has gone by, I've been successfully converted to shaving with SE razors. The shaving gods have cursed me with a strange mass of steel wool that plagues my face, and there's no better tool to whack it off than a GEM Micromatic or Harner 8/8. Now, sadly, I don't own the Harner (it is a beast of a razor, that one, property of my friend Erik), as I am a poor college student I don't have the money to get in to straight shaving right now, but I'm sure my stent here will convince me otherwise. What can I say? I'm weak. The acquisition disorders hit me hard.
Anyhow, I'm here to try new things. I fully intend to jump headfirst in to straight shaving as I did with wetshaving, probably over winter break or over the summer. I tried the Badger & Blade, but found them to be pretty elitist, and have since left their midst. I took a look around, and saw that the TOS here didn't include the word "gentlemen" 7 times (as the B&B TOS does), and decided that this place might suit me better. I look forward to talking with you fellas (and ladies, too).
Cheers

Thanked: 24Welcome to the forum and enjoy the journey...there are many here to help and guide you in the many avenues of wet-shaving be it with a Straight Razor or a Double Edge Razor both do a wonderful job at removing steelwool (the wiskers)...LOL
Best Reguards,
Razorburn

As far as the elitism goes... When I decided to jump into this, I browsed a few other forums as well gathering info, including B&B, but I am only a member and only post here for a reason. Sure, this is a group of what I'd call "gentlemen" too, but it's also a bunch of guys I'd like to sit around and have a beer with as well (something I'm trying like mad to get together in my area). The welcoming, helpful and informative [I]community[I] here has completely won me over. You definitely made a good decision- welcome! I know we all look forward to hearing more from you as you progress!
PS- They're not kidding about the RAD here! I'm a poor college student too, but spend a few minutes perusing the classifieds, let alone do business with any of these fine folks as I just did (I'm like a kid on Christmas Eve waiting for my first shave with my new Saba that arrived this afternoon), and you'll definitely be hooked!

Hey Nathan
I'm a few miles north of you in Columbia County. One thing I've tried to encourage is members connecting & comparing notes on hardware/software. A friend in Tigard tried my DEs & now get much better shaves. We compare and swap gear so each can try w/out going broke. I tried one soap of his last week & have a new favorite (Provence Sante - on a recommendation from the honorable Obie). Should you ever wish to watch or try a str8, ping me. As with so many areas of interest, you usually spend alot to discover you don't have to spend alot. There are outrageous buys from forum members and vendors that DO know what shave ready means.
'Hope your time in College is profitable. Welcome aboard & enjoy the people. I've found the best quality help here, and the best attitudes. 'Nice to have one more.
