Hello, Ralph:
Welcome to Straight Razor Place.
Anytime is a good time to take up straight razor shaving. Obviously your time has come. Good for you, and we're glad you've joined us.
That razor you intend to buy from Amazon is a good starter razor. Is it shave ready? If it comes with the factory edge only, most gentlemen here will tell you that it is not shave ready and must be sent out to a professional to hone.
Unless, of course, you have experience with honing straight razors and can do it yourself.
Regards,
Obie

Thanked: 52Hi and welcome. I'm a newbie too. SRD still offers the free hone; after reading much here about the importance of making sure that a shave ready razor is really shave ready, I just ordered a Dovo 5/8 from them. I read that the honing is done by the guy(s) who run this site and that was a deciding factor for me. In any case, gl and happy holidays.

Welcome to SRP Gentleman !
I agree with souschefdude, if you buy a "restored" straight razor, it will be "shave ready" and you will start with a good shaver..
