a tip of the hat from Crystal River, FL
Hello fellow members,
I would like to introduce myself to you all. I am a young lad from Crystal River, FL with a passion for maintaining things that should never be forgotten. Some passions in my life include performing music (I am a self taught drummer and guitarist), and restoring my 67 Volkswagen Beetle. It all shows through my name I guess. I recently became more than interested in straight razor shaving in the hopes to save a few dollars (looking at things well down the road). I was immediately entangled in all that companies straight razors, and I am thrilled to have a new skill in my life.
After searching and watching many sales here and on ebay, I became too impatient and decided to try my luck at a local antique shop. I was in luck. I found my first razor to be, a nice looking Wade and Butcher Sheffield. The blade needed a little restoring and some honing, so I sent it off to senior member, Stefan. And wow, a completely different razor. He did and amazing job! So after researching and reading and watching videos I was ready for my first pass.
So with all in place, my first shave was just completed, and I can't wait to shave again! I was surprised at how well I did for the first time. I even tried some xtg and atg passes, and it went very well.
Anyways, I have to think this wonderful site for all my success. I would be lost and bleeding without it.

Thanked: 1371Welcome to SRP!
Congrats on your first razor and your first shave!
Many of us got into this to save money. Most of us have spent more than what three-lifetimes worth of cartridge razors would cost.
It sounds like you have been doing your research in the wiki. Keep up the good work, and don't be afraid to ask if you have any questions.
Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government.

Welcome to SRP. Back when I was an ironworker I used to hear about Crystal River powerhouse but never worked on it. Plenty of work at Turkey Point though. You would have liked my '59 volkswagen that had the lever for the reserve tank on the floorboard. No gas gauge. When you ran out you leaned down while steering and turned the lever for the reserve to kick in. As far as saving money by shaving with straight razors ...... that varies depending on whether you can stay away from acquisition disorders. For some of us the darn things are like potato chips, can't have just one.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

yea, I figured that after I got into things. but I am proud and excited to develop a new skill as well as keeping a tradition alive for my generation. your 59' sounds like it was a blast! I have a 67' beetle. a work in progress, but she's my daily driver. Crystal River is a beautiful town, loads of manatees right now. I actually had the chance to rent out a boathouse that had a private spring-feed swimming hole (w/ rope swing!). the view was striking everyday, and I've been lived my whole life. a wonderful place to grow up.
