    Talking Old Guy Newbie

Hello from sunny Arizona! I just turned 55 years old a month ago and still remember a week I spent with my grandfather over 40 years ago. He was first generation Dutch and was old school to say the least. I remember watching him shave with his straight razor and was mesmerized. I have been in the fast lane for a lot of years and have recently been looking for ways to slow down and smell the roses. I have had a couple of straight shaves from my barber and really enjoyed it, so I thought I would give it a try. The economy has dented everyones budget these days so instead of spending $75.00 - $100.00 a year on mutli bladed hype I would make an investment that will pay off for years to come. I am looking at the classifieds here and was wondering what would be a good razor for the 75 - 100 bucks that I currently spend. I would also need a strop etc. Any help will do. You can email me at chipvj@gmail.com

    Thanks,

    Chip

Happy Birthday and welcome, new member here but I have been using a straight for the past year.
I recently acquired my first vintage restore from The Restored Razor - Straight Razor Shaving
He is a member here also. Great prices and service.
You will be very happy If you choose to go with them.

    Hi Chip,
I can relate. I remember my Grandfather taking me to the Barber with him in the 60's. He'd get a shave, and the Barber would pretend to shave me, usually with the spine of the blade, or something to that effect. He used a DE at home, sometimes a straight. I remember the strop in the bathroom, and the brush and mug on the counter. I specifically remember him using Williams soap. I think the formula was better than it is today.

Anyway, Welcome to the forum and don't hesitate to ask questions or drop us a pm.
