Default New guy here, ready to get busy

I got a straight razor set as a Christmas gift from my wife, I know nothing about this art but i think its a cheap set, again im not sure but just from looking around im assuming it is. (its a start) I had no idea she would get me one and i think it was a GREAT man gift! I think the satisfaction of learning to shave with an ol school straight razor and never have to fall into line with the overpriced 8 blade, mach 46, vibrating, laser scope rocketlauncher do it all disposable razors, is well worth the effort and initial investment. plus it goes hand in hand with my other hobbies of classic cars and shooting craps.

so far I have the razor, brush, leather strop(?) and dish

i hope to learn a lot here and am pleased to introduce myself,

    Matthew

    Thanks for the welcomes!

It is a Gold Dollar, im assuming she picked it up on ebay. seems kinda cheap to me but then again, what do I know!

I found a couple Vintage Imperials localy for sale for 19$ ea. they seem to have a decent reputation. would one of those be worth buying for that price and with the addition of paying a member here to get it shave ready? i have zero knowledge and have no idea if these are worth the asking price. could someone confirm?

Did you get both Imperials for 19$ or 19 $ a piece? As far as the Gold Dollar blade, i havent seen much luck with them, but its something at least. Refer to the Beginner's guide Wiki, and the brands to avoid and the god brands, helped me out alot, hopefully it'll do the same for you.
