dominant hand shaving
Again, I'm a 57 year old male who has returned to straight razor shaving after 32 years. It is going really well after 1 week. I'm only using my dominant hand (R) to shave all areas of my face, with no real difficulties. Is there any reason to learn to use my left hand?

first off welcome back, secondly i would have to say that if you have managed to get the shave you want and appreciate with one hand then there is no reason to play switch hitter. Most people do it because its awkward on one side, especially the hollows of the neck. But as i said, do fix what isn't broken. Hope to see you around the forums more.

What's ever comfortable for you, However, If you wanted to learn to use your non dominant hand, Try brushing your teeth with it for a while. It's helps...

Thanks, left-handed is awkward for me when shaving, so I'll probably leave well enough alone. But as a auto tech I can do more than a few things left-handed just fine, so maybe I'll try brushing that way a little.

Thanked: 8My left hand is essentially dead weight useless so I understand a completely right handed shave. Do what works for you and makes you feel comfortable

Dominant Hand Shaving
Hello, agibble:
Welcome to Straight Razor Place.
As the gentlemen here have suggested, use the technique most comfortable for you. No set rules exist on using one hand or switching two hands.
I switched two hands from the first day. The noble Lynn was my shave guru and I learned much from him in those early days (and still do), including switching hands.
To train my non-dominant left hand, I used it as much as possible: brushing teeth, opening doors, and so on. I still use my left hand extensively to increase its dexterity.
Switching hands gives me more versatility. I would have trouble not switching hands. Than again, that's my way. Go with what your hands tell you.
Regards,
Obie
