Hello from Alabama
My name is Mark, I am an Air Guard Technician with the Alabama Air National Guard in Dothan, AL. I am married with 2 boys and 1 granddaughter. I have never shaved with a straight or safety razor but I am looking forward to getting my first soon. Figuring out which one to get is the hard decision. I have been wet shaving for several years. In the summer of 2009 while I was deployed to Germany we made a trip to Venice, Italy and I bought a very nice brush there and some great shaving soap. I wish I had bought more soap. It was the best I have ever used. Sorry for rambling I will hush now.

Welcome aboard! If you go w/ a SR, my suggestion would be to get one with a round tip, rather than a square tip. Learning to straight shave w/ a square tip can be difficult as you always need to be aware of where that tip is. If you aren't, you WILL find out very quickly where it is.
Welcome to your new obsession

Thanks for the welcome. I have been lurking for a few months and watching the video's and have already learned and applied a lot when I shave. Now the decision is to try a DE that I found at an Antique store or jump head first and get a SR. I am thinking that starting with the DE first then switching to a SR would be good. The DE I found is in great shape and just needs cleaning for $12.00 There was also a Christy and a couple of GEM razors. The was also around 18 old SR, some with the boxes and 7 were in a leather pouch. There was also a box that had a SR, brush, comb and a small mirror.
