Thanked: 0Hello from Michigan
I have never before had a straight razor shave but I am very interested and excited about it. I am going in 2 days to my barber to have my first straight razor shave. If I like it, and from all that I read I'm sure I will, I plan to begin the life of straight razor shaving. I am open and welcome all comments and advice, especially if it involves where I might purchase items and supplies locally and I am in the Detroit Metro/ Ann Arbor area.

Welcome to Straight Razor Place (SRP),
On the top menu bar many useful links can be found, I recommend starting with the Wiki there is a lot of good knowledge in there! Next if you check out the classifieds, there are a lot of nice, Truly "Shave Ready" razors for sale.

Welcome
Welcome to SRP, not sure about resources to pick up supplies in your area but I can say that I have made many deals with items listed here and the sponsors/vendors here on the site. Good luck and keep us informed.

I hope you have a good barber, I would hate to see him scare you away from what is the best shave there is. If he is good, let us know, we are all looking for the guy who still has talent.

1+ to nun2sharp.
My first straight razor shave was at a barbershop 35 years ago. It was painful. Most barbers don't know how to do a straight razor shave (read my signature line).
IMHO, start with a DE. Work on your pre-shave and post-shave routine. You can still cut yourself with a DE but they are a little more forgiving. Overtime read the wiki and work into straights slowly.
Most of all, have a great time shaving!!

Welcome to the club. I dove right in and have no regrets. I really don't like to sneak up on anything. Not saying to be meticulous in your prep and shave, but don't sweat it you will do fine.
Shave On!
