    Default Hello from MO

Ok noob here with an immediate dumb question. Is it possible to learn to shave with a straight razor without a live person to mentor you. I'm afraid if I depend on YouTube that I'll end up with a rather large cut!

I did it. Got a few minor cuts in the process.

The thing that makes it possible is that a straight razor is _obviously_ dangerous! So you will be very, very careful as you learn. [And if you're smart, you'll continue to be very careful whenever you have a razor in your hand.]

I'd read the beginner's Wiki's on this site, as well as checking YouTube.

I live in Lebanon, work at Ft Leonard Wood, and go to Springfield every weekend, so it's like I'm all over. Once in a while I have to take the wife to St Louis to hit all the malls..

    Welcome,

I learned and am still learning from this website and from Lynn Abrams CD.

I highly recommend that you read, ask a lot of questions, and get Mr Abrams CD. It is not hard to learn how to use a straight razor if you get all the information and supplies you need first. Keep in mind that you WILL cut yourself. It is all part of the learning curve. Read the Wiki on this website. It will answer most of your questions.

I think I found is that straight razor shaving is great and addicting. Never had a better shaving experience that I have in the last couple of months.

    Best regards,
    Johan

Take a ride over to Cape and I'll be happy to help you as much as I can.

    Have fun,

If the drive over is worth it to you, I'll make sure you leave with a honed razor that you can pass on to another new guy down the road.

Hi Geckogizmo and welcome to SRP. That is a very generous offer Lynn is making you and one of the many reasons this forum is such an amazing place to be a part of. I think you should gas up the car and hook up the GPS and take a short road trip to meet Lynn very soon.
