Default Been lurking for a while.

I really enjoy the forum and the information here is out standing. A little about me. I am 46 a professional firefighter in Charlotte NC married with three beautiful children. I have wanted to start using a straight razor for a few years now and have not as of yet. I have an old Leader of my dads that after watching the restorations on here have disassembled and polished and made new scales for. I have been making knives for about two years so I have a little background with the restore part. My question is I have bought a few razors off ebay and was curious which one might make the best shaver. I have bought the following:

Shumate 256 half hollow ground 4/8

Peter L. Frost Hollow ground 5/8

    J. A. Henkel 70 1/2 hollow ground 5/8

C.F Wolf Allentown etched half hollow ground 5/8

    Bema 58 hollow ground 5/8

    Thanks
    Jeff

    Welcome to SRP.

You'll have to clean them up and hone them. There's no way to know for sure how a razor shaves until the edge meets the beard.

Everything else being equal (and it never is..... )

I have a Shumate, and it shaves lovely.

I also have a Henkels 70 1/2, although mine is stainless. It shaves incredible.

Now that you're excited....hone them up and give them a go!
