I have a feeling you'll be fine. If you're terribly worried, then I'll gladly step up to the plate and offer to care for your razors while Ace is trying to find the number for 911.

    Welcome!

I'm ok, the mrs came home as soon as I finished up so I had to "talk" for a bit before I could get back.

Shave went ok. Needed the styptic pencil a few times, only one real cut.
Went slow. Should have waited to get better cream...Williams was too thin and dried too fast.
Spent most of my time relathering, and trying to figure out how to pull my skin.
I did some touch up with my regular fusion or whatever it is, but attempted the entire face with the straight.

For other new shavers, the 'beard reduction' is SERIOUS. the videos you've seen on youtube.....might as well be watching Avatar.
You're going to make HUNDREDS of short strokes.
    Have a good game plan.
Lather only one part of your face at a time.

Whats funny is that I got the best shave on my throat, the one area I was most scared about.

But i'm alive....my skin burns a bit in places but i'll live to shave another day

    Likely causes for burning skin:

. . . Too much pressure on the blade

. . . Too high a blade angle -- keep it a little bit flatter

. . . Too many strokes over the same area, before re-lathering. A razor on dry skin is a no-no.

But you're alive, so you can continue the journey up the learning curve . . . Welcome --

Good job rearviewmirror. I have only been at it a few weeks but finally at the point where I am not using the MACH 14 for touch ups. Either I am getting better or less picky.

IT guy here as well, so I feel your pain in that arena.

    NB:

Talk with the MRS before OR after shaves. During produces catastrophic results because either 1) you cut yourself, or 2) you get in sh** because you aren't listening.

Another IT guy!! All the old IT guys seem to gravitate toward the manly art of strait razors. Welcome my friend.

I'm on the same learning curve, and it is soo good to hear someone else say the exact same things I'm saying..

Tonite will by my 5th shave. Last night I did the whole face, but like you, had to clean it up afterwards with the old cart.

This is quite the fun adventure tho, isn't it?? I don't need anymore reasons to spend money, LOL...

Great job, good luck and see ya here again!!

    Lata,

Maybe we should start our own group. RL02 Straight shavers. In order to qualify you need to remember RL02 Drives
