    Default Cant wait!

    Good Morning Everyone.
I'd like to thank everyone for the great information on this site. Ive been interested in using a straight razor for a couple of years now and after spend many hours on this site I decided to move forward and start buying equipment.

Again thanks to this site, I purchase an Electric Champion 5/8 from Whipped Dog, a Jemico German Razor Strop 23" with Russian Leather/linen, a barber hone from Niagra Falls and a cheap badger hair brush.
Other then skin treatment and another razor (future purchase), anything else I should look at or be warned about?

My wife and friends think Im insane, but Im excited to get started. Just wish the postman would hurry up with my orders!

    Thanks All.
    Travis

You have all the basics covered. You might want to try using your brush and chosen soap with your cartridge for a day or two to help get the hang of getting a good lather. Face prep is so crucial to a decent shave so rather than jump in with your straight on day 1 start with your prep.

for me I had been using brush and soap for years, just because I prefered it. Then when I was making the plunge into straight shaving I started paying more attention to making a WTG, XTG and AGT pass with my cartridge instead of the typical 1 down 1 up and done. This helped me better understand my beard growth. Even with using soaps and brushes for years I learned rapidily that the lather I was creating was weak and needed improving for using a straight. That is where this board and it's members have been a huge assistance amung a million other questions I have had.

But in short, Welcome to the world of Straight razor shaving, enjoy the journey and as my Dad always told me, there is no such thing as stupid questions only stupid answers

The only thing I would recommend would be a good aftershave balm or treatment as when you first start you tend to get a bit of dry skin until your face gets used to the straight razor. Failing that, cold water after the shave is almost as good as getting rid of the burn.

Good luck! And let us know how you get on!
