Default wanting to start shaving with a straight razor

    Hi everyone,
My name is Josh. I'm wanting to start shaving with a straight razor. I would really appreciate any help that you guy's could offer. I recently started smoking a pipe and I'm enjoying it. I would like to start shaving like it use to be done.
    Thanks,
    Josh B

    Hello, Josh:

Welcome to Straight Razor Place. The straight razor is a good decision. First thing to do, though, is to peruse the SRP Wiki (click on the button on top) for a wealth of information. After that please post your questions and you'll have plenty of answers from our members. We'll guide you every step of the way. Good to have you with us.

    Regards,

    Obie

    Hi,
Good advice from my friend Obie. In addition to the wealth of information in our WIKI, you may want to pick up a copy of our founder's (Lynn Abrams) DVD. It covers every aspect of straight razor shaving, collecting, honing, repairing, etc...The classifieds section here too offers great values on most eveything you'll need. Check out:

Welcome to SRP mate. As you can see there is a great bunch a guys here and a wealth of experience and knowledge.
+1 to Glen (gssixgun) on the Dovos not being shave ready from the factory. I had heaps of trouble with a factory sharpen Dovo best quality before I got it honed properly. Shaves really well now.

Welcome to SRP! You couldn't be in a better place to learn about straight shaving.

Not to detract from SRD/Lynn/Don in any way, but for a budget balanced review of what's out there and what your options are check out the classifieds here and Larry Andro's site: whippeddog.com for a budget minded start.

You'd have to piece together a kit from the classifieds, but Larry has kits that are easily combined to get you on your way. You might consider checking out your local pharmacies as well (Walgreens, etc.) for soap/bowl/brush kits.

If you have the money, SRD is a GREAT way to get started, but if you're into vintage or budget minded there are other options as well.

    Again, Welcome!
