Thanked: 0Yet another noob
Hello from North Georgia. I am just getting into the straight razor shaving and got my first razor yesterday (Dovo red bone) from SRD. I did my second shave this morning and the Dr said with minor surgery you wont notice the scars. lol Just kidding. I did have 3 or 4 nicks but not nearly as bad as I would have thought. I have been an electric shaver user most of my life and about 3 months ago started using a safety razor. I started reading about the straights when I saw a couple in an antique shop. On impulse I bought the Dovo set and here I am. I also got the DVD. I guess I should have read more on which razor to start with but I liked the look of the Red Bone. I hope I got one that will be good for a noob but I guess time will tell.
I look forward to learning more from all of you folks here and appreciate the forum.

Congratulations, looks like you are well on your way. The DVD was one of the early things that I got, and it was very helpful to me. I was told to practice stropping with a butter knife. It may seem un necessary but I can not overemphasize the need to develop and perfect that seemingly simple skill. Take time to relearn your face. There are some very helpful men on this site. Don't hesitate to ask questions or to get suggestions.

Thanked: 993Welcome to the forum! Cecil, everything is going to go "up" from here. If you take the time to read, maybe in the morning with a cup of coffee, and practice....you're shave technique will improve, your lather will improve, your stropping will improve....and it will be straight razor Nirvana for you.

Thanked: 0Thanks for the warm welcome. I will continue to practice. I will admit that I expected my shave to be much closer than it has been so far. I did expect the nicks to be there and go away with time though.
Again thank and look forward to learning more on here with you guys.

Welcome,
Don't worry about it not being close, that will improve along with your technique, just keep practising.
