Hello all,
My name is Pete and I live in Manchester, UK. I'm fairly new to straight shaving so thought it would be a good idea to join this forum and get the info that I need. I have owned a straight razor for a number of years but have only just begun to use it properly. When I first used it I made all the mistakes that one shouldn't make, so that learning curve has been well and truly explored. Explored enough for me to put the razor away for 5 yrs anyway!!!. I foolishly thought that a new razor would be shave ready, because that's how it was described. It wasn't. I stropped and stropped but just ended up believing that I was not suited to a straight razor. I went back to my normal shaving routine but the straight razor thing gnawed away at me so I took it out again earlier this year but this time I purchased a hone (doh!) and, with just a few strokes on the stone, hey presto, I had a razor that could deliver a shave that was equal to any other method I have used. The following months have seen my technique improve greatly and I now get a superior shave with the cheap razor that I bought 5 or 6 yrs ago. I have recently bought a cheap vintage razor (Thomas Turner & Co "The Favorite") on eBay for £6.50!) and this razor deliver the best shave that I have ever had. I am now checking my face all the time so I can shave as soon as possible. It's amazing. I feel that I may have developed something of an addiction!!!
Anyway, that was my introduction to wet shaving. The early mistakes, although painful were invaluable in the long term.
So, hello to you all and I look forward to learning lots from you in the coming years months and years
Pete

Thanked: 993Hi Pete.
Welcome to SRP. You'll find lots of things around here to fuel the many addictions associated with straights.
Glad to have you here.

Pete, Welcome, and thanks for posting.
My own intro had many similar elements. Discovering a great shave has way more impact that I would have guessed. The guys here have been really good to me as I learn. I think you'll find the same. A bit over a year later, I'm still very much learning, but the joy shows no sign of letting up.
'Hope to see more of your posts soon.
