    Default Hello,

    Hello,

I just came back from a two week vacation during which I was given my Great, Great Grandpa's Straight Razor. I don't expect it to be a high-end razor because most of my descendants were relatively poor farmers, but I'm still very, very happy to have received it.

It says "Novelty Cutlery Co, Canton, Ohio" on one side and "Trademark Novco" on the other side. The scales seem to be faux ivory and one is a little longer than the other. Still, it's a piece of history.

I also picked this guy up for $5.00 at an Antique Store to learn on so I don't screw up the real thing.

It's got some nicks in the blade, and looks like it's missing some from the end, but it's in decent shape. Sorry for the poor pictures but I can't find the cord for my good camera.

Anyways, I found you guys on the way to the airport and I've done a fair amount of reading in the Wiki and other sections. I even know I should've started out with a "shave ready" razor instead of buying a fixer-upper first.

Haven't found much information on either of them yet, but I've got time. That's about it for now--thanks for all the neat information. I'm thinking about looking at the classifieds next, but my wallet is still reeling from the last batch of SAR equipment I bought...

    Duzzy.....

Oh yes, please do get into those classifieds. You'll find lots of treats for yourself in there!

That's great that you were able to get a family heirloom. It will probably feel pretty cool to shave with that.

    Welcome!

You've got a good plan, and the gift was wonderful. Whatever you do, you'll learn from the experiences. Your Great, Great Grandpa's straight razor looks like it's a good candidate for cleaning up nicely.

I'm sure they'll be plenty of treats... Unfortunately, last time I joined a Forum and went to the classifieds right away I ended short almost $500.00 in less than two days. So, ain't gonna happen yet.

    Thanks for the welcome though.

I'm not sure how far it will get cleaned up actually. It will certainly get sharpened, but I'd like to leave whatever character I can. It just seems to add a little something.

    Welcome to SRP Duzzy.
I wish I could get hold of my ancestors razors.
    It looks pretty good too.
I hope you have fun riding the learning curve.
Hang on and enjoy the ride...
