Greetings from the Actic Ocean
FYI I don't live in the Arctic. I live down in Oregon, but I'm on a sea going tug here in the Arctic Ocean, Prudhoe Bay to be exact. There's Wi Fi around here, so I thought I'd use it to get involved with SRP.
I've been shaving with a SE for several years now, but feel a bit like a newbie when I read posts by some of the senior members. In other words, I think I've got a lot to learn. And there is a wealth of information on the SRP. In fact so much so that it sometimes renders me afflicted with, what I call, analysis paralysis.
If you're wondering, yeah I do use a SE while at sea. To be sure this can add challenges to getting the job done, especially when its rough.
I use old razors and my collection includes two made in Sweden by Erik Anton Berg. Both are in good condition, one is almost new. The other one looks like the blade is swedged into a separate piece of steel along the back, it has an etching of a shark on one side of the blade and the words "Skydds Marke" under it.
I also have an old razor with a shot blade. It bought it with its original box. It is an Otto Deutsch Hans. The handles are perfect but the blade is shot, which is too bad because it looks like it might have been a classy razor at one time. The handles look black until you hold it up to the light, then you see that they are green, with silver filagree and writing. Real pretty.
So I look forward to participating on the SRP website. My first question would be if anyone knows where one can get a razor that needs a little rehab and sharpened taken care of? The second question is: how do you post a picture? Thanks.

Welcome to SRP. It has been one of my dreams to go north of the arctic circle someday. I'm envious.
As for your questions:

Welcome to SRP!
Sounds like you know your way around a straight edge
One of the razors you are referring to is known as a Frameback.
The Swedish word Skyddsmärke translates to trademark.
I'm sorry about your Hans by Otto Busch. That is a fine shaver, coveted by many!
Enjoy your stay here.Bjoernar
Um, all of them, any of them that have been in front of me over all these years....

Welcome to SRP! It seems as if you have a good handle on everything, if you need anything let us know!

Yo medicevans,
Thank you for the greetings and I hope you get the chance to get up here someday. I've made many voyages above the Arctic Circle, and while I'm glad that I can say that I've been here, I'm always hoping that the current voyage will be the last. Right now the wind is out of the E at 25kts the skies clear and the temp is hovering at 39F. A real dud for August. BTW do you know what constitutes the Arctic Circle? Its an imaginary line of latitude at (i think w/o checking) 66* 33'N, and it is at that latitude (the farthest south that it occurs) that on the shortest day of the year there is no sunrise and on the longest, no sunset. The Arctic Coast of AK is long (935nm) low, and shallow. There are no real ports here. One perq in being here is that occaisionally we see Walrus and Polar Bear. Prudhoe Bay is best described as a mud flat with 5' of water covering it. I guess the only good thing about it is that there are a lot of jobs here. As soon as the oil drilling modules I've got onboard are lightered off, I'm outta here, hoping of course, never to have to return. I'm sure there are many beautiful places within the AC, but they ain't on the coast.
Tomorrow is shave day, I do it every third day. The common thing is for a guy to grow a beard when he's in the Arctic, and most guys do. When I try to grow a beard, I look like a corpse with mould on it. So I don't do it. The big decision tomorrow AM will be which razor to strop and use. We're at anchor, offshore, and hopefully won't be rolling around too much. Before I left civilization, I bought a bottle of Nivea Post Shave Balm. Although too weak, I like the scent and really like what the stuff does for my face. Anybody else tried it?

Captain and yeah I'd love to find someone who had an Otto Deutsch "Hans" blade to sell or trade. Maybe for some fossilized Mammoth Ivory? I bought a nice piece of the stuff from an Eskimo years ago.

Welcome, kruppstahl! I was born and raised in the Portland, OR area. So, I can understand why you'd want to get home! Most places ain't got nothin' on the Pacific Northwest, much less Prudhoe Bay to hear you describe it. Hang in there!
