Thanked: 0Noob from Sonoma County CA
About me... I love my hockey, beer and family. I spent 4 years in the U.S. Army as an 11B2P. I now work for my local county and I am thankful I have a job. About me getting into STRAIGHT RAZOR SHAVING...I bought my first straight razor while on a trip to Wein, Austria at Walter Weiss back in July. I am still in the process of getting everything worked out. I am also trying to get the stropping down and find a way to attach it to something so I can take the slack out of it. I will be stopping by most of my free time to find answers to my questions and looking for other peoples tips or advice they offer. Thats about it...

Thanked: 993Welcome to the forum. What is on the top of your strop right now? IE: can you attach it to a door handle with a piece of leather twine, or does it have a clip on it? You may be able to put a hook into your wall or an eye with a wall anchor.....sorry about the flipped picture...but i'm sure you get the idea.

Thanked: 0the strop has a square clip and a cheap looking "keychain" to hook it up i was thinking of taking the "keychain" off and using one of my grenade pin rings to hook it on a towel rack...seeing as i am renting right now i can not hook anything into a wall stud

Welcome, Bingo. You landed in exactly the right spot for good help and good attitudes.
I've been using the method recommended by one member for almost a year. If the bathroom door is the normal 3-hinge variety, loosen the middle hinge pin so the head sticks up a bit. Then your clip or small ring-style strop hanging attachment can either slip over the top of the hinge pin head, or you can take the pin out, stick it through the ring or clip, and put it back in the hinge, with a firm anchor point at about the right height for comfortable stropping.
'Hope to hear of your first shaves soon. There's some learning curve, but you'll soon be getting the best shaves of your life and it will change from an annoying chore to a very pleasant event.

Welcome,
I thought you said you would be stropping in all your free time. You had me worried for a sec. When you are starting out I recommend attaching the strop at about shoulder height. your arm weight can naturally pull down on the strop and it's harder to apply too much pressure, since the razor travels up and down, basically rising and falling on it's own.
Have fun

Welcome to SRP and the world of str8 shaving. You may find you can use a leather tie or boot strap to tie the strop around your bathroom doorknob. I have mine tied onto my towel rack.
