Thanked: 0Greetings from Canada
Hi there, I'm from Toronto, Ontario and just new to straight razor shaving. I've been shaving with a safety razor (both Schick Injector and Gillette DE) for a few years now and I'm ready to jump in to straight razors now. I look forward to getting to know everyone!

Welcome Itig,
You landed in the right place for learning the old art. 'Great help, good attitudes. 'Hope to see your posts on your first shaves.
I used to prefer the injectors to the normal DE also. 'Still have a shick adjustable I bought new in the 70s and have a few packs of blades for it. I thought the smaller head was easier to wield than the regular DE. That also makes my stay away from most roundpoint str8s. Unless the roundpoint is subdued - the end not sticking out much beyond the cutting edge, I find the roundpoint to get in the way.
Keep posting, asking questions. You'll find the help is incredible.

Thanked: 0Wow that was quick!
I think I bought a bad set of blades for my injector, because I never did get a good shave out of it. The DE on the other hand (my grandpa's old one, who knows when he got it) gives a great shave with the Permasharp blades I bought.

Welcome, For the DE, try Feather blades or Gillette 7 O Clock. They've always been my favorite. YMMV. Nothing beats a good shave with a straight razor. There is a learning curve, but once you get it down, You'll get the closest shaves imaginable.
We have assumed control !

Thanked: 0I've heard the Feathers are good and I'm interested in trying them. As soon as I graduate and have some disposable income I'll be looking to expand my collection a bit. In the meantime I just bought a straigt razor on a hunch from an antique store, it seemed like a nice one. It could be worthless, I don't know and I haven't been able to find any info on it online. I posted a thread to see if anyone knows anything about it: http://straightrazorpalace.com/razor...tml#post840369
Maybe someone here can help.

Welcome, Zib is correct about a learning curve. I have been at it for 10 months or so and it gets better and better every day. It will take a while to figure out your face but it will come with patience and practice. Once you get it down there is nothing better.

Thanked: 1I like the Feathers. I use those on special occasions (birthdays, holidays etc). My main blade that I'm very happy with are Derbys. Just because their half the price or feathers would be my go to blade.
