Hello
Hey guys whats up. I am new to straight razor shaving. I am from Iowa, Louisiana and now live in Baton Rouge. I stumbled across straight razors one day on a search for a particular antique.
Over the past few years I've begun to really appreciate the way things were done in the 19th century and earlier. E.g. I play music and I was thinking one day, you know before the early 1900s if you wanted to hear music someone had to play it on an instrument for you. It also reminded me of my paw paw who used to shave with a straight razor even when I was in my teenage years. The time, effort, and care it takes to straight shave appeals to me.
I have a razor which is being honed now and will be ready friday with a strop (handmade). I ordered some really good shaving soap (Castle forbes cedarwood and sandalwood wasnt really sure what to get there), been reading the forum and articles on this site like a mad man, and tried a pre-shave/post shave regimen based on the articles I've read and had the best shave of my life with just a regular gilette razor !!
I can hardly contain my excitement. Cant wait to make that first pass from the sideburn down to the jawline wtg, of course, and let you guys know how it goes.

Yes, welcome, tcadien! I know how you feel. I was there three months ago. Enjoy the process. I can speak from personal experience that it takes some time to learn. It doesn't happen overnight, but the learnig process--learning from both failures and successes, experimenting, discovering--is a whole lot of fun. Have a great time!

Welcome,
I agree with the other members it seems like you are off to a great start. I am also new to straight razor shaving and I would have to say just take your time. If something does not feel right do not push it. That is when you may loose concentration and that is not a good thing take it from me
