Thanked: 0Greetings from the Garden City
Hello members of SRP!
My name is Sebastian.
I'm bran-new to straight razor shaving and have already made a number of mistakes and had some discouraging experiences, but I intend to see this through to the end. Although I sincerely doubt there will be an end to this hobby.
Would love to meet any experienced shavers who might live out here on or near the peninsula of Vancouver Island in British Columbia! A little face to face guidance would be incredibly appreciated.

Welcome to SRP!
I do hope you find someone to help you out with a face to face.
I know we have quite a lot of Canadian members, so someone will hopefully chime in here.
In the meantime, do check out the front-page of SRP.
There are a bunch of links there, with tons of great tips and pointers. Videos as well
Good luck with your straight razor endeavor.
Any questions, feel free to ask, and the members here will try their best to help you outBjoernar
Um, all of them, any of them that have been in front of me over all these years....

Thanked: 993Ahhhh, yet another Canuck....we're multiplying you know!
We do have some members in the Greater Van city.....you can do a quick member search in the top toolbar. Nothing beats face to face learning.....you get bucket loads in one sitting.
In the meantime, send me a PM if you need anything....I can't exactly jump on a plane from Toronto, but I'll sure answer your questions as best I can.

Thanked: 0Thank you for the hospitality friends.
I have no clue who's skilled with a hone near me. I tried calling one shop but it sounds like they use a machine but claimed they could do "the proper job", I imagine that's not what I want though? For now I'll keep looking, a local shop would be nice for now, but I did also read that you do a good job Maxi!
After my next paycheck I'm planning to either purchase another straight razor off the classifieds of this site (recommendations would be welcome), or a set of water stones from lee valley.

Thanked: 993FWIW, I'd buy another razor. Get them sharp and practice your technique. When that's good and solid, along with your stropping....then add the variable of honing. Control your variables at the start to give you a better chance at success.
