    Welcome to SRP Shane.
You've said it all I reckon.
My wifes birthday is the aniversary of the day Ned was hanged...mmmmm
Good to see you here - even if you are from Victoria.
    Geoff
PS I just had to go and calm SWMBO down as Collingwood got into the grand final with a last 1/4 fight back........just in case you didn't get to see it over there

    Hi Geofff,
thanks for the welcome, even though I am from Victoria :P
Sorry to say I have more bad news.............I follow Collingwood!
    Noooooooooooooo
How can I have put so many people offside with my "welcome To SRP"?

Well I have some good news hopefully. My mums BIG family lives in Sydney, and I have relatives in Perth.
Does this get me off the hook?

And I am dead certain Ned has nothing on your lovely wife.

Shane (trying hard not to lose friends I haven´t made yet)

Just to clarify, Shane she barracks for Collingwood too and they were behind on the score board until the last 1/4.
As a matter of fact we had to enter the reception room at our wedding to the Collingwood team song while handballing a sherrin to each other.
Hang on and enjoy the ride...

Sound like you live in a world of pain. Well I don´t know which team you follow, but I can say this: you must REALLY love your wife

Mate, I love motorcycle racing and I wanted to get married on the start line at Phillip Island - actually we both did 'cause she rides to.
I follow the Broncos so it really doesn't matter to me....hehehe
I just found out that her shoe collection has topped 100 and I'm trying to get my razor collection to catch up - at least they take up less room. :-)
Hang on and enjoy the ride...

    Thumbs up

The track at Phillip Island is really beautiful. Looks more like the setting of a luxury golf course with rolling green hills and a horizon filled with the ocean (Bass Straight technically). Fresh sea breezes, a large family of kangaroos just chillin on the grass and large native eucalyptus trees completes the picture. Worth the trip if you go. Get there a week early for the GP. It gets packed.
You have my sympathy and support with the "plague of shoes." My wife collect dresses, shoes, jackets etc to the point that when there is not room for her clothes (and mine!) she gives them away to friends, relatives or Op Shops. I am using this to justify my small but growing collection.......and they don´t take up much room

    Wayne Gardner
    Micky Doohan
    Casey Stoner

We have some pedigree behind us

We try to go twice a year (MotoGP and Superbikes) but have only made it to the supers for the past couple of years.
I actually flag marshalled the first two motorcycle GP's at the Island ('89 &'90)
We normally stay at the caravan park just over the bridge on the left - close to the chocolate factory - for SWMBO's benefit
I want to do the superbike course at some stage so I can ride the track

    Dude you rock!!
A friend of mine from France loves the bikes as well. He´s a very good rider.
He was at the track once with this Honda CBR600 RR.
He did well enough on his track times to get an invitation from none other than Wayne himself for a track race. There was a spot open on the grid.
    Not a bad effort.

I have been actively collecting straights for only around 2 months but I have been manically reading posts, gathering volumes of information in order to hit the floor running as hard as I can.

I would say that the "bug has bitten hard" however mine seems to be much larger

If everyone here were to describe what their attraction to the Cult of Straight Razing is there would be many differing reasons given. For now mine are as follows:-

    i) the manly arts of a bygone era

    ii) ol school quality craftmanship

iii) thrill of discovering new and hidden gems from many different countries

iv) enjoyment of restoring razors to their former glory - Brad (undream) is inspirational in his video post!

    v) challenge & satisfaction of sharpening to a very fine edge

    v) SICK TO THE BACK TEETH of paying a fortune for disposable razors that ARENT razor sharp.

vi) an everyday living museum - we use and enjoy on a daily basis beautiful items can be considered works of art, where form follows function. While a painting can be enjoyed daily, or a piece of jewelery can be worn daily, these can be considered luxuries and not daily necessities. For me straight razors have the enjoyment of functional art and more. As a boy watching my dad shaving was a memorable moment, something to look forward to and be emulated in the years to come. He didn´t use straight razors but I´m sure his dad did.

Well.............this is what happens when you have a lot to say and not much time to say it o_O
Hope this is not over the top for some.

Looking forward to getting to know many more people here.
Lots to learn and a desire to learn it well

    Best regards to all
    Shane
I have decided to add another very important point as to why I/we should embrace razor use, collection etc.
    The Straight Razor Community.
This forum and others is a great way to meet and share with like minded people from all over the world.
As a new razor user and collector I want to encourage everyone brave enough to try "to get your feet wet."
If you look at the beginner posts, the ones with the most responses are the ones asking for help or advice.
That speaks volumes for this place. I have already encountered many very helpful and generous members here.
I encourage you to do the same. Ask for advice and use the resources given.
Enjoy and share your personal Straight Razor, Double Edge, Single Edge razor journey.
If we all contribute we will all benefit from each other.
    Best regards to all
    Shane
