Thanked: 983My first razor was (and is) my Dovo imitation Mother of Pearl (iMoP) scaled 5/8.
As far as being an Aussie term, cut-throat may not have been coined in Australia, but it is the most commonly used term of reference for these razors, used in Australia. Or was, at least, until a more Americani(z)ed youth started sprouting up here over the last 30 years or so. I believe 'cut-throat' originated in Britain (I'll need to double check that though)...Or, of course, I could just be trying to start a new trend . I do like to add to my band of Cut-Thoat's every so often, after all.

Welcome to SRP & the attached Aussie rabble.
You generally won't find a well honed Bengall lacking in any way on any beard. They of course came in different sizes so all tastes are catered for. You could never shave with a heavy wedge & have missed out on nothing more than building some larger arm muscles
Enjoy !The white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.

Thanked: 0Oh nice, thanks for the link. I spent that much on the rusty bengall, I really should have looked a bit harder around this forum first :S Yeah bulmers on tap! Available at the Plough Inn tavern in Southbank, and Elephant and Wheelbarrow in the Valley.
Bigger muscles you say, are you sure you've got the right technique? Maybe if I were to put the cut-throat on the floor throw a handstand and do some pushups?
Cool, its amazing how much variety there is in blades and scales.. its never ending. Pretty much every cut throat I've seen has been 5/8's, my brother has three 5/8's and one 6/8 .. I didn't even know an inch was commonly divided into 8! All good, I'm correcting my mates that have been calling it a straight razor, recruiting for the band

Thanked: 983They do come wider than an inch too you know...The blade is still measured by the one inch scale though i.e 9/8, 19/16 and what have you. They do seem to be a bit of a rarity above the 8/8...Thankfully for me though, 8/8 seems about perfect, otherwise I would be buying more and more razors in bigger blade sizes .

Just saw this post, sorry I'm late. Welcome to SRP. You should try and make it to the get-together, face too face mentoring is priceless......even if some of the faces aren't a pretty sight
Welcome aboard, and enjoy the ride.
