Thread: Straight Razors are Fantastic!!!

Greetings!
I started with a starter set from SRD maybe eight weeks ago--and now I have a fever... A fever for more straight razor!
I want to share two surprises which I imagine all new shavers experience; one, is that after twenty SR shaves I've nicked myself twice. Heck, I would cut myself more often with the crappy throw-aways I used to use. I honestly thought I'd cut myself up pretty good as I progressed along my learning curve.
Secondly, I assumed that after I had learned to SR shave I might get results as good as I was used to with disposables. Surprise (as you all know), the shave is amazing! Sooo close, long lasting, perfect. That's not to say there aren't challenges, or that I still don't have a ton to learn (I do), but the rewards have been quicker and more frequent than anticipated.
My ninth and tenth straights arrived in the mail yesterday, and I immediately soaked my Nortons for some later honing. There are no folks locally who offer honing, and I don't want to ship my razors out if I can help it. I feel as enthusiastic about honing as I do shaving, and I do say that I'm already able to produce a mirrored, properly beveled edge--popping arm hairs and delivering a great shave. I feel like a missionary, sharing my new found passion with whomever will listen.
Lastly, despite my relative recent arrival to Straight Razor Shaving, I'm slated to teach a free community "Introduction to Sraight Razor Shaving" at a local "Reskilling expo" in the Spring. (Last month there were over 550 people attending free classes on a Saturday, and I'm looking forward to sharing...)
Now , if I could just get some more razors to practice my honing... ;-)
