    Hello Michael,
Welcome fellow crazy one. I thought I'd chime in since I'm a neighbor and had to learn the hard way that the only option in Salt Lake for getting a keen edge is to do it yourself. At least this was the case 10 years ago, and I don't personally know of anyone now offering suitable services. But I too was told my first razor was shave ready. This was long before AoS; I bought a razor, strop, and brush at Lorenz's. (You might want to stop in there sometime, last time I did they were carrying a few nice Bökers) It wasn't ready though , and eventually learned what keen was after purchasing a Norton hone from Classic Shaving and trudging my way through the steep honing learning curve. If you think you might start a small collection, I say take a little further leap into honing, otherwise, there are enough members around who can help you maintain your razor a couple times a year as needed.
One other thing that I would suggest: do whatever you can do to ensure that you are stopping it correctly/well. This, I was reminded of recently, as a co-worker of mine began shaving with a straight and was having major trouble. I told him to bring his stuff to work, and saw immediately that his stropping technique wasn't going to cut it. He said that correcting some of the problems with his stropping made a huge improvement for him.
Have fun, and maybe we can get a meet up together soon. I've seen that they have occurred in the past, but I've been in and out of this forum over the years. For years I thought I was the only one around; would love to meet some of the Salt Lake Shavers.

    Michael,
Welcome aboard! Hope you have fun in your SR journey. Let me know if I can be of any assistance. I am in the southern end of the Beehive State.

I know this date is pretty far out, but would Frid Jan 28 or Sat Jan 29 work for you guys for a mini meetup in SLC? It would be great to have some of you with experience attending.

Good to know there are some other locals into straight shaving out there.

    Harry,
It will always be a little tough for me being down south. Not to say that I would make the trip (I would love to meet up with the SLC group), but that weekend is no good for me. I will catch you boys another time....hopefully.

It is usually hard for me to find time off on the weekends, but any evening is usually do-able. Would a night meet-up be possible?
