    Default Hello from San Francisco

I am a new straight razor shaver. My beautiful wife of ten years was kind enough to take my hints of wanting to use straight razors by giving me a gorgeous Dovo mother of pearl 7day razor set in a burl wood coffin with leather strop to boot. I have been shaving since Christmas day with surprising ease. I even took to using the strop pretty well. The world of straight razor shaving is even more fun than I thought. It has turned a daily chore into something fun and the ritual of maintaining my razors is a pleasure. Now even the prospect of collecting razors is enticing. I am just thrilled with the entire process and wish my beard grew faster so I could shave more.

I am learning and improving every day and have ditched my Mach III altogether with one exception. I also shave my head. I've had it done in a Barber shop professionally and it was quite a luxurious experience. I have some apprehension to try myself but I was also nervous about my first shave and that went without incident. I shave my head by feel in the shower with a safety razor and not sure if that would be wise with a straight. Does anyone here shave their head using a straight razor?

This forum has been so very helpful and many of you have helped me without even knowing with your informative posts and videos so thank you.

    Happily shaving old school style,
    Christopher

    Hey Christopher,

Welcome to the forum. May we have some pics of this lovely set of Dovo's you're describing? We like pictures around here

Glad to hear that you're without incident so far. I don't shave my head, but reckon that if I did I'd probably be a little apprehensive to do it with a straight. I'm sure there are many around here that have tried, and some that may regularly perform the task.

    Cheers,
    Nate

Well done Christopher ! Sounds like you are off to a great start . Would love to see a pictures of your 7-day set too !
I've been shaving since last May and love it - was using a safety DE for two years prior. Have a lovely Edwin Jagger 89L with a Chatsworth Ebony handle , that I still use when time is pressing .

I don't need to shave my head ...but if I did I would be reluctant to use my straights . Like Maxi said , I'm sure there are some who can and do !

    Happy New Year !

    Cheers,

Here are half of the Pearl razors with some nice Dovo ebony I already spoiled myself with. I split them in two for two mixed 7 day sets. I share my time between two residences so I am set for each with straight razor goodness.

I'm going to try and shave the sides of my head in front of the mirror. Shaving by feel this early in the game may result in some serious gushers.

Thanks for the warm welcome gentlemen.

Well, I have now shaved my head twice using the straight razors. Only one gusher and that was my fault for going too fast and being careless after feeling overconfident. It's really not a problem. Even did most of it by feel.

I will say it dulls the razor much faster than my face. And is it my imagination or is it warping the blade a bit. It comes out after many passes on the strop but my head is hard on the razors.

    Man this is fun.
