Post Happy New Year from NYC!

Happy New Year to everyone and thank you for the dedication to compiling all of these resources in one place!

I am in my mid-20's and moved to NYC last year pursuing a job. As I have been thinking about habits I want to begin to have in my life, learning how to appreciate shaving by using a straight razor became one of the foremost. I knew virtually nothing about this art a few months ago, but since then I have been reading blogs, articles, and speaking with barbers to try to learn about it. After my last straight razor shave at the barber I decided its time to take the next step.

My job is fairly time consuming, but I am exited about acquiring this skill. I am ready to purchase my first set of equipment and after reading all of the articles on this site, I was wondering if anyone knows if the best way to acquire a straight razor set is to buy all at once in a package? or to buy individually piecemeal? If anyone has any thoughts to share I would really appreciate it. My father never has used a straight razor and sadly my grandparents have all passed away, so I am trying to figure this out by myself. If anyone wants to meet up sometime in Manhattan or another burrow I would appreciate any tips or tutorials anyone may be willing to share. Thank you, and have a great 2012!

Welcome to the SRP. There are several great vendors that put together packages for the beginner. I would check the WIKI first and then do some reading about what you need vs. what you want.
I live about 1 mile from Manhattan and would be willing to lend a hand and meet up if you like. We run a group meet-up on occasion here in Nothern NJ, your welcome to come as well.

Drop me a PM if you need anything else or would like to meet

There you go....a helping hand, and an invite to a meet. Now you're not doing it by yourself any more. Meets are awesome! Go for it.
