Default Greetings from IL, this site is GREAT!!!

    Good day, greetings and salutations!

My brother got me a Feather disposable blade straight for Xmas and, as I've always been a cartridge guy, this is a completely new experience for me - and a bit daunting to say the least.

I've been poking around here since, trying to figure out what type of soap to use (or cream or both!), how to properly make lather, how to prep the beard, etc., etc., etc. The Beginners Guide has been such an enormous help as have all the articles in the Library.

Just wanted to take a moment to say hello and pay a compliment or two for this wealth of information (even if it's just me reading old posts lol) as I slowly take the time to learn how to do all of this correctly.

Welcomes to SRP. Post questions as they arise and best of luck and hope you stick with it even with the learning curve that is required. You'll be rewarded in due time with the best shaves of your life and may even wish you would've started sooner.

P.S. Be sure to sign up for the January Give-away in the Beginner's section, who knows, you might be lucky enough to win some great gear to assist you in your journey.

The Feather blades are extremely sharp. So -- when you finally start shaving -- use no pressure to press the blade against your face.

Just glide it gently along the skin, as though you were using a squeegee and removing the lather. Keep the blade fairly flat against your skin. The beard will get wiped off, along with the lather.

PS -- many people find the Feathers difficult to use, and prefer straights. But you won't know if you're in that camp until you've tried both.

Hey Rusted! Welcome....what part of LincolnLand are you in...I too live in IL. I as well had started with shavette and quickly moved to a proper straight and contracted RAD (razor acquisition disease) but still and have the shavette for travel.

Great advice! I've been taking it very slow and starting with sideburns to jawline, some of the cheek, and from the jawline to the neck.

I have a friend who uses a DE and his advice to me was 'The razor has weight to it, so let it do the work. Don't use pressure.'

Just north of Chicago RAD, eh? Doesn't sound like it's a wholly bad thing!

Thanks for the replies, tips and advice all!

    Cheers!
