Thanked: 13249The price point of the Fromm is inside Dovo and Thiers Issard entry level razors, there are Canadian vendors I'll let the other guys from yer side of the border give you some direction on which to get hold of...
It isn't that the Fromm can't be made to shave, they are just not as good as others at the same price point
What ever razor you finally decide on just make absolutly sure it is "Shave Ready" and has been made so by either a Vendor or a Honemiester that is well known on SRP...
Perhaps by shear luck, someone at that barber shop actually knows how to hone and strop a real straight razorLast edited by gssixgun; 01-06-2012 at 03:01 AM.

Thanked: 1195I'm not sure how much they want for the Fromm, or what your budget is, but I believe Fendrihan.com has a fair selection and is based out of Ontario. I agree with Glen, you could do better than a Fromm though. Also consider the SRP classifieds, where there are many razors for under $100 (or even under $50 for that matter), and most of them are shave ready too, so that takes the sharpness question out of the equation. A definite bonus IMO.

Thanked: 993I'm siding with Glen and Ryan....
It's not that the Fromm won't shave well, but I've honed one and it took forever to dial in. Then when I tested it, I didn't really like it.
For your money you can do much better, such as an entry level Dovo Best Quality. Ryan also mentioned our Classifieds section, which you'd do well to look at.
Further, on February 26th in Guelph, we're having a get together, and again probably in April in Toronto. Those would be ideal places for you to see and hold a variety of razors, test a variety of strops and stones, and generally make many decisions without having to spend a whole lot of cash to figure out what you like/don't like.
I know that Ryan mentioned Fendrihan in Mississauga, but I prefer Straight Razor Designs. They have excellent prices and great customer service. Furthermore, your razor will come with a certificate for a second honing, which you'll need. Also, if you purchase one of their "kits" you'll likely save enough money with the sale, that you'll cover the excess of what your duty cost would have been.
I hope this helps a bit.
I'm located in Toronto, so if you're close, feel free to PM (private message) me, and we can get together to chat about things. You can test out my razors and strops if you'd like to. I'll also be at both Meets coming up.

Thanked: 2209May I suggest that before you purchase anything that you attend one of the Razor Meets. You will come away with a lot more info that will help you make a decision and maybe someone will have a few razors for sale?
