Welcome to SRP There's lots of Aussies here and maybe one or two in your area. Check out the down under section of the forum, and take a look at the member's map when you get a chance.

Do you have any equipment yet or are you just starting to look? If you do, what do you have?

at the moment i have a cheapie shaver with replaceable blades, a $10 brush from the super market and a stick of shaving soap. i got my shaver for $20 at my barber because i was curious at the time :P

i have actually just bought a proper Dovo razor from the internet. it is the "Black Star w/brown pakkawood handle" in "5/8, full hollow" . while i wait for delivery im looking at some quality brushes, cuase my supermarket one is falling apart already lol!

Just make sure you start off with the thing properly honed mate. If it has a factory edge, you'll be doing yourself a dis-service by trying to learn to shave with it. I recommend Onimaru55 for honing in Australia. He's a member here. Welcome and best of luck on your new shaving journey. Don't be afraid to ask questions and make sure you spend time reading as much as you can in the Wiki section.

Welcome! I'm also in South Australia, and would be happy to give a hand honing if needed. A 5/8 full hollow is a great profile, you'll be able to hear the hairs popping! The Shaver Shop sells reasonable badger hair brushes. I get a lot of my gear from shaving.ie at the moment, odd to be getting stuff from Ireland but it seems what they have is what I want. I'm going to buy a boar bristle brush from there this week as I find my badger hair brush a little too soft for use with soap; I find the badger hair great with cream and for face lathering. There's a whole BUNCH of creams that could be recommended (Musgo Real, O Melhor, C O Bigelow) and even Faulding's 'Shave' that you find in a supermarket is pretty good, but if you want some nice cream ASAP, head to The Body Shop in the mall and grab some Macca Root shave cream in the tub. WELL worth the cost, excellent cream, interesting scent....

While you're waiting for your razor, practice making lather. I was going to say practice stropping with a butter knife, too, but you don't say you have a strop. You do know you need one, don't you? Again, The Shaver Shop at the Plaza has some nice ones, other than there no-one else in Adelaide even knows what a strop IS. Of course,. MickR sells 'roo strops, something I have to get one day....

no i dont have a strop yet but the place i got it from thesuperiourshave.com (in the US) specificslly states "professionally honed and shave ready!" so im hoping that it will be honed and ready to go when i get it =)
