Hello all!
I just wanted to introduce myself and say hello. I am from Pennsylvania and have just begun my straight razor shaving adventure. Nick

Thank you
Thank you all for the warm welcome! I purchased a Dovo Ebony, 5/8 spike point. I'm loving it so far..I am really interested in trying a 6/8 for a little more heft in the hand. My next goal is to purchase a hone. I'm open to suggestions as to what to buy. I've looked at the Norton 8k/4k. Is this the way to go for simply maintaining my razor ?

If your razor is shave ready, then you could get by with a barbers' hone for a while, or maybe a pasted strop. I would focus more on shaving and proper stropping and worry about getting the Norton 4/8 a little later down the road.

to just maintain your edge... a barbers hone ot coticule would be all you need athough every now ant then it will need more attention. the coticule does not need to be a huge pretty one a largeish bout works just as well and since that are odd sizes they are generally cheaper. i went for for nearly 30 years with just a natural belgium blue/yellow stone and a few barber's hones.
i have a lot more since i started here so be careful around the razor and stone porn you see or else you will get the acquisition diseases.Be just and fear not.
