    Default Hello From Canada

Hi all my names Tyler i have had a recent appeal to straight razors it just looks so gentlemanly and classy i just have to try and beside im sick of disposables not that i have alot of facial hair its just very coarse hair.I just ordered my first barbers strop and nice looking wester bros straight razor(off eBay).I cant wait to get it professionaly honed and get to use it for the first time. Srp looks like a great site and i cant wait to start doing my own restorations and making some scales there is some amazing work on this site.Looking forward to chatting with you all Ty.

Mail came early everything looks even better then the pictures the only thing is that the strop has a slight nick in it and it almost has a curve to it.I sanded out the nick and did my best to rub the strop to make it a flat surface.I got a norton 4k/8k to try honeing.Still want to take it to someone to get it done perfectly and to teach me.But anyways it went pretty well.

To get out the nick i used some techniques from Lynns tutorials
    4k
40 circles each side light pressure
40 circles each side no pressure
    10 x laps
Tested on finger nail was good
    Did 20 x laps on 8k
Nick is completely gone and is reasonably sharp
Then i used the aggressive pyramid technique then the casual pyramid
Did 60 laps on the strop
Then tried to do my first test shave.Needs to get a decent brush.
    Picked up
    Wilkinson Sword brush
    Wilkinson Shaving soap
    Quicksilver aftershave
So i did a good first lather then used a hot towel over nice and relaxing
Repeated the lather then another hot towel
Did another thick lather and started the shave
Its such an amazing experience getting the angles and positions down.My cheeks and neck were very easy to shave only had tug and pull at closer angles the mustache and chin were extremely hard ended up using a disposable to get it done.Any tips or tricks on getting those two harder areas done?
Then finished with the quicksilver after shave once i get those two harder areas down i never wanna go back do disposables.

    Welcome to SRP.
Lots of patience and practice. Stretching the skin helps too.
