    Default New here... Hi.

I've been DE shaving for about 10 years now. I have been interested in straight razor shaving ever since I got hold of my grandfather's (badly chipped) Zenith Prince. Basically I'm here to learn and hope to get good advice on what to buy in order to get started with a straight. From what I've seen on the net, this seems to be the place. Take care, and please bear with me as I try to understand the forum software... sxe

    Welcome to SRP!
sorry to hear about your gramp's razor but i would still like to see a picture of the blade. what to buy is really a matter of your preferences and budget. there is a list of brands to avoid, but even that is not all inclusive. my suggestion would be to check out our classifieds and vendors. and get yourself a starter kit, which usually contains at least a strop and a shave ready razor and can be had for $45-$150 the maid difference would be the prettiness/newness of the razor.
since you already are a DE user i'm assuming you have a brush and a soap or cream you like, the spray foam cans will more or less work with a straight razor but the traditional soaps and creams will generally provide more comfort.

    enjoy,
    jim

Lets see a pic of that old razor. Sometimes a "badly chipped" one can be salvaged. Maybe we can salvage yours.

Hey friend, I'm new to the world of straights too. I did tons of reading, and followed the advice of the seniors here. I purchased a Dovo 6/8 Best Quality Razor and a Straight Razor Designs Black Latigo Strop. Good price, and products. The razor from SRP will come shave ready. That is huge! Don't buy one with the factory edge, it won't shave worth s%#t! Good luck and ask questions!
