Looks like there are quite a few of us SoCal shavers here. I'm in Oceanside. We should have a meet-up. Oh yeah... Welcome!

Thanked: 154I am biased because I used to work at Plaza Cutlery, but it is indeed a good knife shop with very experienced owner and staff. Your new Dovo probably just needs to be stropped, but if not Russ Delavan can hone it for you, and better still, teach you how to hone it yourself. Enjoy.Jeff

Thanked: 154I should add that Russ is the brother of owner, Dan Delavan. Russ provides the sharpening service at Plaza Cutlery, and is an exception to the "rule" that knife sharpeners don't know how to hone razors. He teaches knife sharpening and razor honing classes for a fee (check Plaza Cutlery for info). I haven't taken his class (though I would like to - they sound fun). I believe that he provides the ubiquitous Norton 4K/8K for the classes.
But really, try stropping your razor carefully first, and try shaving with it again before taking it to a stone. I've shaved on average about four times a week with the new Stainless Dovo #41 with Pearlex scales that I bought from Plaza Cutlery in July 2010. I have yet to hone it, using only my canvas/cowhide Illinois #361 to keep it shave ready.
I live in South Orange County, and regularly travel to Corona and San Clemente. If a meet up happens in our general area I'd be happy to show you how I use a strop and hone razors (and even more happily learn from you and the other guys who attend).
Cheers,

Dan was the guy I spoke to. Nice guy! And a meetup would greatly benefit me, as I'm pretty sure I'm stropping incorrectly.
