    Default Alberta newbie

Hi, my name is Andrew and my username is Antiping. I am 27 and live in Alberta Canada. I am interested in learning how to shave with a straight razor and was told that this was the place to go. I need to be clean shaven for work so I end up going through a lot of disposable razors and while a straight razor isnt a replacement, i figure that if I have to be shaven anyway I may as well treat myself every now and then. So thats it, I want to learn what i can.

Welcome,This is a great place to start your journey into straight razor shaving. Be sure to take full advantage of all the information here before you start buying equipment, and certainly before shaving.

Welcome from Northwestern Ontario. You will find a very helpful group here and lots of good info in the Library section to get you started.

Welcome to SRP Andrew! Yet another Albertan here - we seem to be coming out of the woodwork . Whereabouts do you live? Anyway, your idea is sound, as it's usually best to learn when you have time (weekends, holidays) instead of rushing through a shave before work - you'll court disaster that way. Have fun and if you have questions don't hesitate to ask.

Welcome Andrew from yet another Albertan. There is a ton of info here to get you going. I don't know which city you're in but if those blades need a hone you may want to talk to Rob at Knifewear here in Calgary. (I have no business affiliation with them other than being an occasional shopper.)

Wow, this is great. I wasn't expecting so many replies in the first day. I am glad to see there are lots of people that are aroud my area and on the forums that are supportive.

Anyway, I live in the Drumheller area of Alberta. Dry, dusty and HOT in the summer, Dry, snowy and COLD in the winter. I have read through a lot of the library and wiki stuff from the site and I think I am starting to get a picture of beginning to use a straight razor. I have a few questions, but I am not quite ready to ask them all as I may be able to find answers on my own somewhere here. There is one thing I want to know though: Where in Calgary/Airdrie or Red Deer can I go to actually talk to people or look at stuff and get an idea of what is what?

Thank you again for the nice quick welcome. I will be sure to ask any more questions I have in the beginners forum.
