Thanked: 14I remember 6 months ago being in your position. I started with a parker shavette, very unimpressed, so purchased a kit from Larry at whippeddog, loved it so purchased a 5/8 dovo best quality and now I've got 6 de's too lol...
Enjoy the ride! BTW Vdh also is still consistently a good shaver for me, very even larher.

Thanked: 21I was happy enough with Larry to suggest him to a co-worker I have to sit next to every day. This particular co-worker is VERY vocal, so I would have heard about it forever had anything gone wrong, and I was still willing to suggest his services.

Thanked: 0I have only been shaving with a straight razor for about a month and I got my first razor from Larry at whippeddog.com as a "sight unseen" razor and got a quality blade that was well prepared. Pair that with the "poor man's strop kit" and it is a fantastic introduction to this great new hobby. He also includes some great literature in the kit on razor care, etc.

Thanked: 0I appreciate the input guys, and I think a sight unseen razor is the way I'm leaning currently.
Nothing against shiny new razors, but I'd rather keep a shiny new one, shiny, and new looking if I got one. (not that I intend on abusing old razors or anything.)
Also, you guys are all awesome and helpful, and I don't meant that to just the folks who replied to this thread. I'm on a couple other forums, and while all of them have nice helpful people, this forum seems to have a really high percentage of helpful folks.Last edited by TinWhistler; 07-03-2012 at 06:06 PM.

Thanked: 2209There are a number of SRP guys in Wisconsin. You might send "Obie" a PM and asked about any in Madison.

Welcome to SRP
I would suggest looking in the Main Index - Straight Razor Place Classifieds for some or all of your equipment. I would trust the quality from here far more than on the bay and the pricing to. Just be sure to by shave ready.

Thanked: 0I had thought about the classifieds, but I don't know Tim from Aaron here, and I don't know if they know how to hone. I don't think anyone here would be trying to rip anyone off, but I'd rather buy the first one from a guy who's honed thousands vs tens.
Good to know.
I have an uncle, also from Milwaukee, with a very similar nickname... spelled differently, (O.B.) but pronounced the same. I had to go through Obie's posts to double check.
Pretty sure he's not my uncle.
Edit>> OK, now that I'm not surfing on my phone I saw his pic in his profile, definitely not my uncle.Last edited by TinWhistler; 07-05-2012 at 03:49 PM.
