I have used DMTs for years. I also have an assortment of diamond pastes, chromium oxide, and iron oxide that are loaded onto hard strops.

Some day perhaps I'll step to natural stones, but I have always had good results with diamonds.

welcome to the wonderful world of straight razors dmt's are good for setting bevels but to finish with they arent the best option but the edge can be smoothed out with the use of pastes as i'm sure you know that. before i started with honing straights i to was in to knife sharpening i used ark's for that. the skill that is the most transferable is patience in developing the edge of a knife or razor. honing a razor is a different animal then sharpening a knife you'll have to lose the heavy handedness to get a razor to the best achieved edge. enjoy your journey into this world good luck and if you have any problems your just a click away from help .

Heavy handedness is a sin with knives also. That is the great thing about good abrasives, they do the work and you simply glide to tool over them.

DMT makes some great abrasives. I have the 3 micron hone (and all the others) and they not only set a good bevel, they will take you pretty far into the refinement stage. I still have plenty to learn
