Thanked: 247Hello, I am new
Hi, guys and gals.
Some of you may know me from Blade Forums. I am a fairly accomplished knife sharpener and lover of all things that are silly sharp.
I have been toying with the idea of straight shaving for years and am finally taking the plunge.
You probably will not hear much from me...I plan to lurk for a while, but who knows, I may develop some questions I cannot find the answer to.
Have a great day!

Thanked: 21Welcome to SRP!
I imagine a background in sharpening knives will come in handy when you are honing your razors!

Thanked: 247Thanks. I like it here.
I hope to share some good photos at some point, for those that appreciate a true patina

'Good to have ya here, Unit.
In your lurking (which is a very good idea), you may notice a number of threads from guys w/ backgrounds in knives that find blade honing radically different and not what they expected. I'm sorta in the opposite end in that I can get a decent shaving edge, but the curved tip of a knife remains very hard for me to sharpen. 'Not to worry. It'll be a fun learning experience. I'd say to post any and all questions that come to mind. You'll find the guys here to be terribly helpful. 'Hope to hear more from you.

Thanked: 247You will hear more
So far I have repaired two straights and honed them back to life. I'm not going to brag myself up, but I find the results to be indistinguishable from a professionally honed refurb I purchased...possibly because I'm too much of a noob to discern the difference.
I have been sharpening knives for many years and apparently picked up a few skills that apply to straight honing. I have no doubt that I'll encounter something that gives me fits at some point, but so far (as long as I take my time) I am enjoying the results.

Welcome Unit,
I know how to sharpen knives, I THOUGHT it would carry over to straights -- it did not! LOL. But I'm learning (Thanks everyone for your patience and understanding!!). Glad to hear that you're off to a good start.

Well it's about time you started using straights!! A blade you can use everyday, and show off it's use everyday!! Woot lol.
As for questions lol, there is a bit more to this hobby than just honing lol!! See you on the prep, cream/soap, shaving technique sections lol!!
Glad you are having good luck so far! Welcome to SRP.David

Thanked: 247Yeah I realize there is more to it. I think I already have RAD figured out pretty well.
Everything else...yeah, I have some learning to do. But I can't complain about the results do far, it's going better than I expected (guess I set my expectations appropriately)
