Thanked: 0Newbie from Calgary
I have been on the site for a few days now and I am overwhelmed with the amount of information there is. Very impressive.
I converted from cartridge to DE Safety Razor about 6 months ago and I am now enjoying my shave every day. No more ingrown hairs and rash.
I want to make the step to a straight razor so will do my research for a month or two and then take the dive.
I have great quality brushes, creams and bowls so will only need the razor and the strop for now. I don't mind paying up for a razor and strop but the selection is mind boggling. Dovo, TI, Hart...... What is most important for me is the shave and the blade. Having said that if I am spending the money I want a razor that will be something I can give my son down the road.
Anyway lot's of babble from me. Look forward to all the information I will get here.

Thanked: 1195Welcome to SRP from another fellow Albertan! Given proper care any razor can last a lifetime and be passed down to the next generation. My great grandfather's razor is in my rotation if that gives you hope
Cheers and have fun.
I think at this stage we can say that Rasage Poulin is officially kaput. Shame, they had an amazing selection....
Last time I was in Calgary I saw a Dovo Best in a knife shop in a large mall on the south side (the name escapes me), but I'm not sure about honing. A senior member here, sebell, is in Calgary and might be able to help you out. Other than that I know that Juliette's Day Spa sells Taylor of Old Bond street soap if you're interested.

Welcome aboard. Typically, a vintage blade would be a great starter, but Lynn has been sellin' dem round point (Boker) King Cutters for a song. Makes me wanna dust off the project bench and finally give its spike point brother the proper resto that it deserves.. I'm still kicking myself in the arse over selling the first one I came across. One of the top shavers I've ever used and I've used quite a few

Thanked: 0I didn't know what the Boker King Cutters was so had a look through Google. Looks beautiful but I don't see them being sold by Lynn? Boker site selling them for $149. It quotes "The blade is made of a special alloy, containing silver, for improved cutting capabilities". Any idea how this compares to carbon or stainless steel?

Thanked: 0Thanks FiReStaRT! Not sure why I didn't see it under the straight razors. Looks like a potentially good starter razor. Reasonablly priced and appears very good quality. It's on the list.
