Thanks all for the warm welcome!
Wintchase - I was in Colorado just last year, have a friend there but we travel to LA & Mammoth every 2 years, next time I am over your way I will let you know!
As promised a shot of my razor I have been using. It's a Hope Cutlery blade.

OK, some "real" conversation now … I know there are tonnes of threads out there on this, and I have read some of them, and I will Probably hear you guys groan from here :-) however I was after the opinion of the few guys that are on this thread.
As a new fella to straights and even newer to honing (read never done it!), I was looking at something to keep an edge fresh once stropping doesn't quite cut it.
From reading here it looks like the most popular choice is Norton 4k/8k and also sounds like it is a good hone to learn on as older hands say it is easy and consistent. Eventually I think I would like to go to Jnats (I like the idea of slurry stones ) but have read that these are allot harder to be consistent with. I have some blades That weren't so economical to bring up to shave standard, so whatever hone I go with I will be practicing with them and I will have YouTube close by my side. Just wondering the opinions of the few guys here on this?Last edited by Mcduck; 08-23-2012 at 09:57 AM.
