Hey there Rick,
Welcome. Im currently looking into shaving with a straight razor myself. Currently just waiting on the funds to hit the "buy now" button that i have on the SRD website. for the past 1.5 months i have been very active in just finding out everything i can before i try it out, and the first place i started was reading a very detailed guide titled "The Art of the Straight Razor Shave" which can be found here, http://www.shavemyface.com/downloads...azor-Shave.pdf i found it a great starting point, and the guide even gives you places to go to further your knowledge.
Hope it helps you as much as it helped me.

Welcome to SRP! (from another former paramedic, firefighter)
Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government.

Thanked: 0Hey, thank you for the literature. It was very informative. It addressed quite a few of my questions. Buying a straight razor feels like a bit of an investment for me too. I'm greatly concerned that I find the right razor (one that will most importantly hold an edge, and not completely drain my pockets). If you don't mind me asking, which razor were you interested in? If I find anything that looks right for the price, I will be sure to give you a shout. Good luck in your search.

Thanked: 0Thank you all for your help. Its nice to see so many other Firefighter-Medics here. It makes this place feel like home. I work for the City of Lauderhill in FL. If you guys don't mind me asking, what departments did you work for? And, if anywhere does know of a place selling a decent razor with in reason, please send me a message. Thanks again!

Welcome Rick,
Spend some time in the "Library" section above, it's an enjoyable ride.
When you have a general idea of what you want, many great razors can be found in our classified section.

Thanked: 16Greetings from a fellow South Floridian Rick.
My daughter and her husband are both firefighters in Auburn, Alabama.
I shave with either a DE or a straight, depending primarily on how much time I have. There is a learning curve with straights, and I'd be happy to share my experience with you. Let me know how I can help. It's easy to get discouraged, but once you develop the skills you need you'll love straights. I read this forum for a year before joining and the knowledge you can gain here is amazing.
If you'd like, I can lend you a straight and strop for you to try. Send me a PM if interested. We're not far from each other.Last edited by TheLegalRazor; 09-06-2012 at 01:22 AM.
