How did I get here?
You guys are dangerous!
Less than a month has gone by since I purchased a Dovo #122 from Jarrod. Of course I had to purchase the package with all of the necessary items to go along with it (I love this razor). I quickly discovered this site and it’s been a journey at break neck speed ever since. Looking for hones and some good instruction I figured that it may be wise to buy an older razor first to practice on before dropping my beauty on the stone. Well I just bought a lot of five on E-bay. Looking at the old blades I then decided that I should probably try my hand at restoring them too…so I ordered washers from micro-fasteners and have found myself looking at buffers and drill presses… I also plan to tag along with my wife to antique stores this weekend.
The funny thing is that I do not remember what sparked my interest to begin with. I do know that my first shave took right at an hour which turned into more of a facial peel than a shave. I’ve now gotten it down to 15 minutes. I hated shaving; fast growing beard and a daily necessity. Now I can’t wait to shave!
The amount of information here is nothing short of awesome. You guys are great and I look forward to learning all I can. Thank you.

Ha-ha sounds like a fantastic month! I was actually thinking the other day what brought me here. Some folks on clubwrx.net had a thread regarding "shaving like your grandpa", and the rest was history!

That's exactly correct! I told my wife that I was tired of buying razor blades that use to last a week and now they might get me through three good shaves. Consequently...she's starting to give me the raised eyebrow when she sees me looking at new power tools, hones, ebay razors, and polishing mediums
I almost went to far by agreeing to go to antique shops with her. I would have rather sat at home and driven nails through my toes before.

The Acquisition Snake has bitten you deeply. The only antivenom for RAD, SAD or HAD is a lot of dineros.
Welcome to the group and hobby.

I had the same feeling as you and did not drive nails in my toes but did other things to avoid such trips. Then I learned. SWMBO has an eagle eye for shaving equipment. She can spot our hobby gear two tables away. We now hunt together as old couples should anyway.
My message is get the spouse involved and reap the dividends. To beat all, she can get the prices down way better than than this old guy. Can it get any better than this?If you don't care where you are, you are not lost.

Welcome to SRP, Kelley. We all switched from carts to save money, didn't we?
