Shaved with a Ka-Bar Hilarity ensued
Hello gent's!
I am very excited about starting to shave with a straight razor (properly). I have been researching this online for a while because I couldn't even find a barber in my area that used one after my usual barber retired. I played with the Idea for years never willing to spend the upfront capital for a grooming tool I may not enjoy, that is until today. Now I preface the story of my day with a warning, do not try this at home as I probably shouldn't have in the first place. I was contemplating the scene in several movies where you see the action hero shaving with a Bowie knife. I have a Ka-Bar. What could go wrong?? well as it happened, nothing. the research I had done for shaving with a straight razor paid off and I only ended up with one nick and it was so minor it went away after a pinch. The unexpected side-effect was that I had an extremely close shave never achieved with any disposable not to mention the blasphemy of an electric razor. So now I am completely focused on purchasing the right tools and I am exited to join a community that shares my passion for a smooth face!Order of life: Family, self, everything else

That's good, Boots! I actually have a Ka-Bar straight razor from Union Cutlery, USA. Makers of the Ka-bar knife! Great steel!
Once you get a good shave, you won't look back!
Welcome!

I already refuse to look back! I am committed to this course of action! However the Ka-bar incident may or may not be repeated as I used the knife version, a 7 inch blade is quite ridiculus for shaving however amusing I may have found it.

I had a disclamer I am not responsible... I had a disclamer and everything... but if you must, Its very important that you prep as much as possible, My Ka-bar was brand new (hence why I was admiring it and then shaving with it) so It was still factory sharp, give your knife a good cleaning and sharpening before any attempt. Also its not going to be as sharp as a razor so softening up the hair is about a thousand times more important, soften it up as much as possible shower hot towel conditioner all of it, every trick you know, otherwise it will give you good results but be equivilent to torture according to the geneva convention.

My 'factory sharp' ka-bar took about an hour of work on its edge before I arrived at something I considered sharp - and that was years before I started honing razors and became slightly obsessed with truly sharp edges. I would have had trouble cutting a steak with mine out of the box.
If you shaved with a factory ka-bar edge you either lucked out big time compared to me, you prepped with Nair, or ???
Yeah, I'll be giving this a miss.
It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.
This was and still is my favorite combination; beautiful, original, and worn.
