Thanked: 2Hello from Georgia
Been lurking for a while trying to learn. Been wet shaving for 1.5 years and straight shaving for a off and on for a few months. Really wanting to know a lot more about touching up razors. Looking forward to spending some time here.

Hi GASHOOTER, welcome to SRP!
To touch up a razor you can get a long way with a pasted strop, if used right it can keep your razor(s) going for a long time before they need honing.
If you want to get a hone to keep it up to shape you can get a Norton 4/8, barber hone, or a Naniwa SS 12K depending on versatility and price.
A barber hone is the cheapest alternative, you can get one for ~$20. Naniwa SS and Norton is close to eachother in price (~$80) but the Norton is more versatile as it is a combination hone that also is good if you need to do a little bit more than just a simple touch up.Last edited by Zephyr; 09-24-2012 at 10:37 PM.

Welcome. Check out the honing forum for any thing related to sharpening you could ever need to know; you will learn a few good tricks here and there as well.
Mastering implies there is nothing more for you to learn of something... I prefer proficient enough to not totally screw it up.

Thanked: 2Thanks for the warm welcome. I will post my question in the appropriate forums as I know nothing about the stropping and honing process except to strop before and after each shave.
