I have the Norton stone 1000 / 4000 grid. I was 'sort of able to hone' the Russian razors.
The green one was easirer but the black one i had some trouble. The way it was honed before seemed to be on a wheel, so when i honed it on norton stone in the middle, there is a taller edge. It shaves ok tough.
I wanted to ask... I am using this old belt for strop (by now it has plenty of cuts). Is there a benefit of using narrow strop versus wide ones where blades fit completely?

I think you are going to have to get yourself a nice 8K stone and a finishing stone - maybe a 12K. What a feeling!

There is no difference in effect between a wider vs narrow strop. It's all about using them well. I find that the 3" might be a bit easier... but I enjoy the 2" a bit better lol. Maybe a 2.5" would be my answer lol. You'll have to figure out what you like best - but neither is better than the other. GL - hope that helped?

I would love to have a real strop. I am not far from Orillia ( i am on east side of cooks bay). How much would it cost?
