Thanked: 0Brand spankers from Plymouth UK
Hello all,
Just thought I'd do the polite thing and introduce myself. My name is Danny and I got my Very first Straight Razor today 1-12-12 and had my first shave. Im now very sore, red and bloody but hey ho! I am currently trying to coerce my mates to join the Chuck Norris of shaving club!
If there are any Plymouth members who know how to hone a blade and they fancy teaching someone please hit me up. Other than that does anyone know if a blade fails the hanging hair test (even with perpendicular sliding action) can it be brought back with a strop?
Cheers all

Welcome to SRP. There are UK members who can help out. Some of them will be along. In the meanwhile check out the beginner's guide here. If you follow the suggestions your next shaves might be bloodless.

Hi and welcome to STR!
As for stropping a razor back in business, it depends, is the boring answer. If the razor was shave ready and then shaved with a couple of times (or a dozen times), then yes, but if it never was shave ready to start with, it can't be done.

Thanked: 0Hi Mikael,
Thanks for that answer, the razor was sold as shave ready so im guessing it was a combination of my ineptitude, rushing and shaking that messed my face up. So I'll spend some time stropping it before the next shave.
Had my second ever straight shave today and its a lot better (no horizontal slashes this time, and the osma bloc didn't make all the veins I own pop out), although my skin still feels burny and its no where near as close as my catridge razors got. But hey I'll get there and the journey will be ace. One thing that surprised me was that i managed to get my top lip uber smooth but my chin/s and side of my face were still stubbly! Go figure!
Can anyone tell me if this blade should be ok. In all honesty i got it because of the "Bismarck" thing and I'm in the navy so it all fits!

Hi Jimmy welcome to the SRP. PS If you lived nearer me I would give you a few lessons, but Plymouth is a fair few miles from Wales

That's a nice blade mate (one of Dovos better ones) , watch Lynns vid about stropping, you can find it here on SRP (he's the founding father of SRP and has honed and stropped a razor or two ). Be sure not to roll the edge on the strop, let the spine/back lead and the edge will follow. Good luck!
