Hello from Oz...
Hi There, greetings to you all.
I'm Bongo and I came to this site by a circuitous route.
At the tender age of fifty-something I've suddenly experienced razor rash for the first time in my life.
For the last six months my face has come to resemble a pepperoni pizza !!
I'd decided to throw the three and four bladed 'safety' razors away and seek alternatives.
I didn't like the cost and the environmental impact of disposable razor blades either.
Whilst searching on the interweb I kept hearing good things about Straight Razors.
Eventually this lead me to your forum and I hope to glean as much knowledge as I can before purchasing a Straight Razor.
I'm also a sometime knife maker, so I'm interested in restoring old 'straights' and might even have a go at making one from scratch.
That's me, and that's why I'm here !
Look forward to talking with you,
Bongo

Thanked: 485Hi there. I think you'll be very comfortable here.
Stranger, if you passing meet me and desire to speak to me, why should you not speak to me? And why should I not speak to you?

G'day Bongo. Welcome to the forum. I can honestly say that I found shaving with a straight razor much easier on my skin than anything else.

Thanked: 983My brother in law had a dog named Bongo. Boofheaded thing it was. Good dog though. G'day Bongo and welcome aboard mate. Cut-throat razors are the way to go. We also share a common interest. Knives! Although I'm not much of a maker/collector myself, I do have one or two that I've made and a few that I've bought .
Enjoy your stay. Woof.

Thanked: 28Welcome Bongo! I'm from Melbourne myself I have a few friends that live up your way though. I have just gotten into straights as well, I purchased the works kit (shave ready entry level razor, poor mans strop kit, badger hair brush, soap) from whippeddog dot com and I've been picking up razors on ebay with the intention to get into a little restoration/cleaning/polishing and eventually i want to learn how to hone as well. I have been so engrossed in ebay and this forum of late that even though my new gaming computer which i forked out about 2k for has arrived I have yet to play any games on it I've only used it to read and post on here and use ebay.
