Greetings from NYC - new to straight razors, already obsessed
Hey-O - Dan from NYC (at least at this moment, while I'm in my office ignoring work) here.
New to straight razor shaving after getting a shave-ready Dovo for Christmas and then buying a truckload of stuff at Pasteurs here on 34th Street.
Quick question - any manufacturers of razors noted for razors with a smile? My Dovo catches on the vaunted Dan neck easily owing to the pointed corners.
And what is the deal with Pinaud Clubman, anyway? Dang, that stuff smells good! Makes me happy when I wear it...silly, but true.
Looking forward to never throwing out a cartridge again!

Welcome to SRP, only smiling razors that originally come that way I can think of are some custom jobs. However, many of the vintage W & B's, and others in need of some restoration work can be found with slight smiling edges for reasonable prices. You can check the classified sections, and turn up some good deals on those that are ready to be used. Oh, and the classic aftershave scents just make you feel like a "sir" for that reason alone, they are just awesome in and of themselves.
Mastering implies there is nothing more for you to learn of something... I prefer proficient enough to not totally screw it up.

Thanked: 275If you have a square-point Dovo, I'd suggest "muting" the corners.
That's done by holding the razor vertically (at right angles) to a fine hone, and taking one or two _light_ strokes to knock the corner off. It doesn't take much to dull the edge.
Some people consider this sacrilege. I consider it good sense, if you're cutting yourself on sharp corners and just want to solve the problem.
If your Dovo has a round point, you _could_ perform the same operation. But I wouldn't recommend it, and haven't done it to my own razors.

Welcome from a displaced New Yorker/Jerseyite....We have a custom maker who just did a blade for us. It looks like our logo. Here's the link: http://straightrazorpalace.com/razor...ght-razor.html
His name is Robert Williams. You can check with him and see if you can get one. I know he was doing 200 and I'm really not sure if they all sold or not. It's a full custom job for $350.00, which is not a bad price, and it's a limited edition.
Clubman pinaud talc was used by the Barber's to dust your neck after a hair cut back in the day. It always reminds me of that.We have assumed control !

Welcome to SRP Danny,
I am in NYC as well but live "upstate". Make sure you check out the upcoming meet for the 13th of this month:

I definitely have to go check out Pasteurs (I will go to the one up in Mad) only if it wasn't so damn cold this morning

@zib
Awesome - looks nice, though not tempting fate with the Lovely and Talented Mrs. Dan this early in the game...may have to wait to buy that for a little.
I'm actually a native Manhattanite who moved to Jersey City nearly 20 years ago...which means I've been comfortable saying I live in Jersey for about 10. My friends still accuse me of sacrilege.Last edited by DannyMcO; 01-03-2013 at 10:16 PM. Reason: forgot to address individual by username

@Ochavez
Thanks for the heads up on the Meetup - definitely going.
Do folks usually bring parts of their collections to sell to these things? I might be able to sneak a couple of Paypals out while there...
