Post a pic, more than likely it can be honed out, until then, you may look at the classified's here and find a second razor so you won't have to do without a great shave while one of your other razors is out for honing. You will find that this is a great sport, enjoy the ride!
Thanks for the encouragement! Maybe have to get a recipe thread going as well.
Ill def put a picture of the chip up. I know it's not the right way to go about things, but I've continued to use the blade with no problems because the chip is pretty far from center.

so there is the chip/knick. there is an almost imperceptible mark a little further up the edge from the same trauma as well. no definite difference in the shave, but damn if that knick isnt leaving a family of tiny scratches on my strop!

I had a similar thing on the edge of my Dovo, it took a bit, but I honed it out. I don't think I went about it the right way, as that was in my early days, but I would probably deal with it in a cery similar way. I might just use tape on the spine until the ding was all but gone, before switching back to no tape and resetting the bevel and honing it back up from there.

Thanks Mick. Not long ago, your advice would have sounded like calculus, but I've been studying up and watching the tutorials, so I get what you are driving at.

Gonna invest in a norton 4k/8k soon and a local fellow has offered me a chance to see how it's done on a couple less valuable blades till I get the hang of it.

Ill let you know how it goes.

You are learning "theory"...fun part is when you start applying that theory. Having someone local that knows how to hone is great, you can learn more in a few hours FTF than you can in months learning on the computer. Make sure your honing mentor shows you literally how much pressure is being used. I do this by having the "mentee" hold the stone I am honing on with my hand under theirs. Sounds like a bit of Russian Roulette huh?

    Shooter,

Thanks man, that's a really good tip to getting the pressure down. Thanks for the detailed info in the PM as well.

On another note, my shaves are coming along great. Incrementally, the common areas of difficulty, ie chin, jawline, good lasting lather, etc are improving smoothly. And a compliment on my skin and dapper appearance today was probably the nail in the coffin! Nothing like a good stroking (ego) from a pretty lady.

I spent 90% of my financial resources on women, whiskey and motorcycles. The rest, I just pissed away!
