Beats me if that means he can sharpen you will soon know. he definitely can "clean and sand" you might have lucked out and found a new resource for honing.

    let us know,

    enjoy,

The page you linked to has some info regarding some honing systems, including lansky and apex pro. He does not mention any other honing systems, as far as I can see. This does not mean he is actually using these to sharpen straight razors, but if he does it is bad news I'm afraid. Perhaps ask him?

Hi and welcome to SRP (välkommen!)!

If they doesn't hone it good for you, I can do it for free (you pay shipping back and forth to/from Sweden). we'll soon know, when they answer Björnars mail... PM me if you need any help, or shot a question on the forum.

@Mikael thats a seriously nice offer, thank you very much.

@str8fencer from what i read hes using quite a wide arrays og honing instruments, the lansky and apex is just the honing instruments hes selling. (hes in a knifemakers guild)

but it,ll be interesting what Birnando finds out. I´m still waiting for the razor to return, so for now i can only wait. Though I must say as of yet I,m still confident that he will do a good job
(based on reviews and of course "innocent til proven guilty" )

Hopefully I´ll get my razor back tomorrow, if not I will call him and in the same instance I could also ask him.... I spoken to him over the phone and hes seems quite nice. (not that it means that cause hes nice hes a superb honer)

Trying a straight razor is something I´ve thought about for some time now, because 1. the prices for the gilette stuff is through the roof and 2. from what i hear you get a much better shave from the straights.

last week I found a deal for a dovo solingen "best quality" and took the leap. (although '"deals" in denmark is considerably higher in price than in the states)

I also bought some different shaving soaps, to try out for difference (blue wilkinson sword, Mitchells wool fat, Crabtree and Evelyn sandalwood and lastly men-Ü shaving creme).

For brush i bought a Prorasso boar brush. as a free gift there was also a brush with synthetic hairs with the Men-Ü shave creme.

While I wait for the razor to return i use the time reading., so thanks for all the great advise and discussions in here... I´m REALLY looking forward to try my hand at this.
Congrats on taking the plunge! I've always said that what this world needs are for more Danes to take up straight razor shaving.

Seriously, I just love straight razor shaving. It took me a long time before I felt I had mastered it, but it is well worth it.

You came to the right place for assistance. Congratulations again and welcome aboard!

Ok guys heres finally some answers regarding the Mighty-sharp hones. i spoke to him over the phone today. First of all, he uses a straight shaver himself and has for years. what he has to say for gillete mach and fusion translates badly from danish, but it was something in the lines of "Mickey Mouse pieces of shit for adults"

second about the honing: he hones the razors on a 8k wetstone and then strops them. He here advised me as a beginner to start stropping on balsawood instead. till i get the hang of it. then go to leather stropping as my technique improves. what is your thoughts on this?

Still waiting for the mailman to drop of my razor....it should be here today or tomorrow

replacing balsa is a lot cheaper than good leather. it probably will not hurt it at all stropping can be done on lots of things... denim, newspaper your forearm, your thigh (although the wife's thigh is probably smoother and works well)... these are all methods i have tried. many folks use balsa as a base for pasted strops so it probably will be fine.

glad to here that he is razor user... you new goal is to get him to join here as well

    enjoy,
    jim
